You're on a scenic route through a state recreational area known as the human mind. You ask a passerby for directions, only to find he has no face or something.
You're entering the vicinity of an area adjacent to a location. The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. Inside is a Mad Scientist to be, trying to keep her blood saturated with caffeine and geekness. She hides in a city that doesn't exist, and you hear her laugh evilly as she disappears dressed in her lab coat, quoting TV shows just to confuse people reading her Bio.
Everything about her journal could be a hint. Or maybe not.
These are just examples; it could also be something much better. Or worse.
Wipe your mind on the welcome mat and prepare to enter the Scary Door.
