Fic Masterlist: Here.
Abbadon feeds on his life, and all he can do is scream.
When the last of his life force is torn from his body he welcomes the dark, because it will smother the pain. With his last conscious thought he hopes that this is it, the final end of Captain Jack Harkness. A man who lived and died too many times, maybe now finally able to rest.
Time washes over him and the dead beast, snapping back into the currents it's supposed to run in, leaving him behind to die one last time.
He has served his purpose, he saved the world. The last air from his lungs escapes his lips with an almost contented sigh.
He's dead before he hits the ground.

In the darkness, in the place between life and death deep inside his own skull, a familiar golden light surrounds him, pushes him towards life as it has always done. But now he's unwilling to follow its guidance back to his unnatural existence. His team betrayed him, as everyone he ever cared for did, and he's tired of fighting. He served his purpose, it's over.
His mind curls further inwards, embracing the blackness, wanting to die.
Why are you still here?
It's a question he pondered over often, but this time it's not his thought, someone else has entered his mind without asking. The voice is jarring, blindingly golden, but he listens, because he recognizes a part of it.
"Rose?" It's a reason to struggle, just for a bit longer. How can she be here, in his mind?
I am the Bad Wolf.
So much pain bleeding into him from whatever part of her is here with him, and he can't help straining his sluggish senses. Her tone is already fading, growing weaker. Something stirs inside his mind; his will to fight wakes with a growl, demanding to protect her.
We bring life. We need you.
That stupid girl must've absorbed the power of the TARDIS, reaching through time and space, fiddling with the very fabric of the universe. An absurd concept, but here, in the darkness he knows it's true, knows she made him understand. She holds the strenghth of a Goddess. A girl with too much power, bringing him the gift of life, over and over again. It will certainly destroy her.
"Please, Rose, let it go. For me,"
The gold is urging him back towards life, but she will burn, her love for him and the Doctor will annihilate her.
"Let it go. For the Doctor." He whispers, and her pull on him weakens for a moment, considering his words. He knows her decision. His lips tingle with a kiss as much a goodbye as their first one, the feeling leading him forward, away from her.
The child will return to be Rose again.
***
"Thank you," he whispers with his first new breath, the grip of the gold fading fast, his body rushing him back into the coldness of life, leaving the Bad Wolf behind.
The Torchwood morgue, he realizes when he gathers all his strength to open his eyes. He smiles when Gwen appears above him, helping him up and getting him dressed. There are things to do, monsters to fight and paperwork to be lost.
Rose Tyler cared enough to save him. She gave him back hope.
